Four Things Moms of Seniors Should Do After Graduation

Dear Mom,

Here it is. The last Mother’s Day before she graduates. Only one more Mother’s Day before you move him into a college dorm. Who has any idea what moms of seniors should do after graduation?

I know what’s going on in that mind of yours. I really do. I delivered my firstborn to a university situated 916 miles away from our home just two short years ago. I’ll be moving my youngest into that same college dorm in just a couple of months.

I know what you’re thinking…

I know the questions you’re asking. “Did I do enough to teach her responsibility? Have we spent enough family time? Have I passed along the faith I wanted to cement in her heart?”

Or perhaps your concerns are a little less cerebral: “Will he get up for class or sleep through his alarm? Is she going to eat any healthy meals, or will she just live on Ramen noodles and K-cup coffee pods?”

Here’s the thing, Mama. You’ve done everything you can, and you did a great job. Here’s what’s left to do:

Four Things Moms of Seniors Should Do After Graduation

  1. Get in the photo! So many times we’re the ones capturing the memories. Especially now, during these momentous occasions, hand your camera off and let someone photograph you and your senior. Even if your eyes are red. You’ll be glad you did.
  2. Pray. Pray for your graduate. Pray for your family. The separation is going to be a big change for all of you and keeping a prayer list will ease all kinds of heartaches and anxiety.
  3. Make yourself a Pinterest board with college care package ideas. Or you can jump to THIS ONE. Thinking ahead to ways to stay connected will give you something to focus on.
  4. Display your graduate’s photos! Don’t just throw a flash drive full of images into your desk drawer and forget them. Ask me about canvas print galleries, heirloom albums and photo print collections. CLICK HERE to see some amazing ways you can display your precious memories.

Thanks, Mom

Thanks, Mom, for letting me be a part of your senior’s story. Thanks for holding the light and touching up the hair and making him laugh. Thanks for letting me grab a quick candid of the two of you together.
