This Independence Day weekend, I’d like to throw the blog back to one of my personal favorite portrait sessions. Katie’s American girl styled portraits offer a nod to a patriotic love for country, and an appreciation for the phrase itself. Katie is an American Girl.
Family Tradition – Birthday Portrait Sessions
Each year on their birthdays, I planned a day-out, on-location portrait session event with my girls. They carefully planned two or three outfits, a couple of locations and a restaurant for a special birthday dinner.
These birthday portrait sessions are some of my most precious treasured memories. The girls thought they were getting a fun day out with Mom (and they were right). But on top of getting to hang with my favorite kids on their birthdays, I was getting a series of portrait images of my children as they aged – photo memories that will last for generations. #precious
Themed Sessions: American Girl Styled Portraits
Katie’s American girl styled portrait session was probably the first “themed” session we crafted. It was so much fun choosing a theme that her sister chose a themed session for almost all of her birthday sessions from that point on.
Katie chose her wardrobe carefully, crafting an “I love the USA” aesthetic and color palette with each outfit change.
She wanted a “country girl” vibe for part of her session, and she loved the boots she got for her birthday.
We chose MacArthur Park for her first location, which perfectly complemented the southern country theme she wanted to convey.
We finished off her session with a quick trip to the beach and then a park that featured easy access to the Intra Coastal Waterway. Cause on top of being an American girl, Katie is also very much a Florida girl.
Katie’s session was so much fun that six years later, it’s still one of our favorite events.
I would love to craft a themed session for you! What do you think? What theme would you choose. Click that button below and let’s get started.
