The Story of Tonight: Kelly’s Hamilton the Musical Inspired Portraits

One of my favorite kinds of portrait sessions is the “inspired-by” style. I’ll be showcasing a series of some of my favorite “inspired” portraits on the blog. First up, a session from the vault: Kelly’s Hamilton Inspired Portraits!

Inspiration

When Kelly was fifteen, she and her bestie were OBSESSED with Hamilton: the Musical. She downloaded the soundtrack, faithfully watched Ham4Ham episodes on YouTube and dreamed of being in “The Room Where It Happens” for an actual performance.

While a ticket to an actual show was a far-off dream at that point, one thing we could do to fuel that obsession was create a series of Hamilton-inspired portraits that she would love forever.

Wardrobe

These are some of my most favorite Kelly portraits ever, since it showcased so much of her unique story and personality! She researched meticulously to create an outfit that would appropriately evoke the aesthetic of Hamilton’s stage costume. We even found dueling pistol earrings on Etsy! Kelly and I hit Ulta for a makeover and headed out for some early-America inspired locations. And boy did we find them!

We crafted a second outfit inspired by the stage costumes for Eliza Hamilton. I loved this sort of softer, feminine style of images with Kelly. While it was out of her usual style, and a bit of a departure from her signature look, it was so much fun to create.

An “inspired” portrait session is a great way to capture your special interests and preserve those memories. Maybe you have a favorite movie, or band, or TV show. Let’s craft a session that will show off your favorite fandom. It’s a great way for us to tell your story!
