Kinsey is super-obsessed with the Monsters Inc. movies. So when we were planning a fun session, just because, we immediately thought of Disney Monsters Inc. inspired portraits. And it was a blast! We spent the whole time laughing and giggling, and captured some awesome images.
“Inspired” Portrait Sessions
Creating inspired portraits is so much fun! I custom style a regular portrait session to portray your unique story. But I will carefully craft an inspired portrait session to showcase a theme or character outside your own personal story. I designed some of my favorite inspired sessions to emulate famous movies or TV shows. A season or a holiday can also spark the creative process. Even a specific color could prompt an inspired session. It’s a chance to play dress-up, and have some fun with imagination. These sessions are the most kind of fun!
Planning Disney Monsters Inc. Inspired Portraits
Planning a senior portrait session is a lot of fun, and watching it all come together is pretty exciting. But a LOT goes in to planning an “inspired” portrait session. We choose location, props and wardrobe to match the theme with precision.
First, we choose a background, or location. for Kinsey’s session, we hunted down a door that we could paint and repurpose. A contractor friend found some doors that were being torn out of a remodel job and they were perfect! A couple of coats of paint and some crafty artwork later and we had a backdrop piece that served as both a focal background and a prop. And it screamed “Monsters University!”
Second, we create the wardrobe. Because we wanted Kinsey’s outfits for this session to focus on the Monsters University film aesthetic rather than the original Monsters Inc. movie, we searched for items that would tell that story. We found a hat that was perfect on a trip to Disney Springs. Her jacket was a handed-down Disney Letterman-style denim coat with khaki sleeves. And, of course, a Mike Wazowski T-shirt. Super cute! Her Disney Monsters Inc. inspired portraits session was ready to go!
Kinsey chose a fresh and natural, everyday-style makeup application, with some help from one of my favorite vendors. Taylor (Transformations by Taylor) is an up-and-coming makeup artist that I love to recommend to my clients. Taylor has totally rocked as one of my interns for the last couple of years, so it’s been a lot of fun watching her business grow! LOVE!
